Milena is a “good wife”. She’s concerned about aging and her kids have less and less time for her, but otherwise everything is basically alright. The only thing that really weighs on her mind is the relationship between her husband Vlada and her eldest daughter, who doesn’t balk at a critical examination of Serbia’s more recent history. Then Milena finds a video where her family memories have been dubbed over with recordings from Vlada’s unit in the Bosnian war. She stops the tape. Piece by piece however the familiarity of her life crumbles and she resolves to take another look.
Mirjana Karanović’s debut film, in which she herself shines in the lead role, tells of the difficulty of summoning courage in the face of a nationalism that reframes participation in war crimes as a willingness to make sacrifices.
