ANDRZEJ WAJDA: MY INSPIRATIONS

In this documentary, the great Polish director Andrzej Wajda, who passed away in late 2016, reveals the secrets of his filmmaking techniques. Why did he drop out of the Fine Arts Academy in Krakow and take up studies at Łódź Film School? How does visual art influence cinema? Polish paintings served as an inspiration for some of the scenes in his most significant films. He draws comparisons between pictures from artists such as Jan Matejko, Stanisław Wyspiański and Kazimierz Michałowski and scenes from films such as THE WEDDING (1973), THE PROMISED LAND (1974/79) as well as KATYŃ (2007).
