Adaptation of the eponymous tale from Boccaccio’s “Decamerone”: a lecherous monk persuades a woman that Archangel Gabriel has fallen in love with her. The film received the main prize in the Animation category at Oberhausen in 1965, but was denied a certificate for public screening in West Germany after the “Catholic Film Commission in Germany” protested against the work’s alleged “defamation of the sacrament of confession”. The “acting figures” are puppets from the workshop of Jiøí Trnka, grand master of puppet animation.
