AS FAR AS I CAN WALK accompanies Strahinja and Ababuo, a married couple from Ghana, in their everyday lives as refugees in Belgrade, after their bureaucratically ordered return to Serbia from Germany. Despite the setback, Strahinja is trying to build a life for himself in Serbia, and even achieves a modest amount of success playing on a local football team. Ababuo on the other hand is unsatisfied, as her dreams of becoming an actress stagnate. One day, she disappears unexpectedly with a group of Syrian refugees – a move intended to give her a better chance of being granted asylum in a Western European country. When Strahinja is unable to locate his wife, he immediately sets out too for the Balkan route, once again exposing himself to the risk of exploitation at the hands of smugglers or arrest and deportation by the police.
In this new interpretation of the Medieval Serbian epic "Banović Strahinja", contemporary actors in the form of African migrants slip into the roles of national heroes. In the process, AS FAR AS I CAN WALK succeeds in lending entirely new meaning to the questions the traditional tale poses about selfless love and identity.
