DOUBLEFEATURE
The young Russian journalist Anastasia Baburova once said humanity was her homeland. Writing for the Novaya Gazeta she exposed neo-fascist networks. Together with the human-rights lawyer Stanislav Markelov, she was shot on the street in 2009. In conversations with relatives, friends, colleagues and associates of the journalist, Balayan inquires into individual and societal possibilities of displaying resistance and civil courage, and the conditions under which they work. At the same time, the seemingly overwhelming opponent is shown: Soviet-style video clips and ad banners disseminating openly fascist content via the internet, along with statements by neo-nazis and a glimpse of their “SS tv” channel.
- Screenplay: Valery Balayan
- Cinematographer: Valery Balayan
- Producer: Valery Balayan
