BLUE MOUNTAINS, OR UNBELIEVABLE STORY

A young author personally submits a manuscript to a publishing house. He meets with a very friendly reception, but everybody is busy. Nobody reads his book – they’re all learning new languages, smoothing out family problems, having the occasional drink and, more than anything else, talking. The missing manuscript is finally tracked down, recycled as scribbling-paper, rescued, then finally bites the dust when the building collapses. But life goes on: the publisher moves back into a new concrete building, the world continues on its way. The sparkling satire about the immobility of the apparatus quickly turns into a surreally absurd parable. By the end, nobody is entirely sure if the manuscript ever existed.
