Bota means “the world” in Albanian. The beach bar of the same name however lies in a godforsaken no man’s land between the sea and the mainland. Political prisoners were interred here under communist rule. The waitress Juli works for her cousin Ben, who has become involved with the local mafia. An Italian construction company is building a new street through the drained swamp; the mortal remains of victims of political repression are still being found here. Juli too is confronted with the painful truth about her dead mother and her family.
