BRIDGES OF TIME tells of the birth of the poetic documentary in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in the 1960s and 70s and thus serves as an excellent epilogue to 2018’s goEast Symposium. Through the work of filmmakers like Herz Frank, Uldis Brauns, Ivars Seleckis, Andres Sööt and Aivars Freimanis, the Baltic New Wave managed to develop its very own cinematic language. In contrast to the prevailing Soviet pathos of the time, this new school sought beauty not amidst military parades or the heroes of production, but in normal, everyday life instead. Audrius Stonys and Kristīne Briede also make use of such subtle stylistic devices for their quiet essay film, which does indeed succeed in erecting a bridge between eras.
- Screenplay: Kristīne Briede, Audrius Stonys, Ramune Rakauskaite, Arunas Matelis, Riho Västrik
- Producer: Uldis Cekulis, Arunas Matelis
- Production Company: VFS Films, Studio Nominum
- Co-Production Company: Vesilind
