CONSTANTIN & ELENA, an elderly couple, both bear the illustrious names of past emperors. In the hilly, florid landscape of Romania's Moldavia region, they lead an active life deeply informed by ancient knowledge and traditional craftsmanship. Perhaps they are the last generation to keep their own cows or cultivate small fields – in an increasingly automated world. Their jokes and songs bear witness to a decades-long relationship that resembles a dance. While Elena hardly leaves the house, Constantin remains her connection to an outside world that is rougher and blander than their little slice of paradise.
