Documentary about a young couple from the Russian lower class. The young man has been living with his girlfriend’s family since his mother threw him out. The reason for this: Mother thinks that the girlfriend’s origin is not good enough for her son. Additionally, she suspects her to have robbed her. Actually, the life circumstances of the young woman are everything but civic. The small flat, which houses numerous people, is completely neglected. Mind you, the mother lives in miserable, run down tenement block herself, with the plaster falling off the walls and the staircase covered in dirt. In vain, the boy talks to her through the closed door – she only wants to see him again once he has left his girlfriend. She adds that the child, which the girlfriend is pregnant with, isn’t his anyway. The discussion in the staircase attracts the neighbour who also loudly insults the son. He leaves discouraged. Finally, the young woman gives birth to their child. In spite of all the angry entreaties by his mother, who throughout the film is never seen but only heard, the son stands by his girlfriend.
