CROSSROAD STREET
Symposium
Ten documentary-portraits about the humble, everyday life of the people living in a small side street in a suburb of Riga – seemingly untouched by the commotion “Perestroika” causes in the centre of the Latvian metropolis. An old woman thanks God for the few things she has to get by. A young man suffers from the results of a botched medical-procedure. The orphan Dauga is not allowed to live with her grandfather… But all endure their fate with melancholic-but-optimistic humour. The film was awarded the European Film Award for best documentary in 1990.
