BLACK NIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL
The documentary shows the history of an information war. A totalitarian regime is confronted with an almost war-like challenge from the heroes of a popular culture – and has to admit defeat. Back then, the influence of western pop culture on the world-view of Soviet youth was not to be underestimated: “My life’s great because I can watch Finnish television!” The programmes broadcast by the close Baltic neighbour opened a window onto a dream world, and there was no way the authorities could slam it shut. Even if Finnish channels were banned, people found a way of accessing the forbidden electronic fruit. The film shows its own version of recent history by linking spy games with human tragedies.
- Screenplay: Kiur Aarma,Jaak Kilmi
