Stevan, an ageing musician, is standing in a Vienna record store when his mobile rings with surprising news. Decades after leaving his native Serbia as a young man, to perform in various cities around Europe, his mind is brought back to his childhood: at the age of over 80, he inherits his parents' estate. The house, which was expropriated from his family during the Second World War, is now returned to his possession in the scope of a post-socialist restitution program. In Žilnik's customary docufictional style, we accompany Stevan as he journeys into the past. Together with PhD student Nina and an old school friend, Stevan visits the scene of his childhood. His trip to Serbia leads to a host of encounters – with his family, old friends and a new love interest. Nina's findings expand upon the stories in Stevan's life. The budding researcher studies the lives of women in former Yugoslavia – her interviews serve to reinforce the docufictional character of Žilnik's feature film. A witty, incisive social portrait about family politics, identity and belonging.
