During World War Two, all grown-up Germans are being transported from their settlement in Turkmenistan on trucks. Only mothers with small children may stay behind. Desperate, little Georg runs from house to house, looking in vain for his parents who have been deported as well. When he witnesses a stranger collecting children to bring them to a home, the boy hides. But his Turkmenian friend Orazka gives away his hiding place, forcing Georg to find another shelter. One day, someone puts a glass of fresh milk in front of his new hiding place. Georg starts to gain new hope.
