In the course of 2012 and 2013, the Cinematheque of Macedonia undertook the digitalisation and digital restoration of the entire film legacy of the brothers Janaki and Milton Manaki at the Hungarian Film Laboratory in Budapest. The work of Janaki and Milton Manaki is closely connected to a number of major historical events of the first half of the 20th century. These include the Ilinden Uprising and its bloody resolution in 1903, the Young Turk Revolution of 1908, the Balkan Wars of 1912–13, and the First World War. The films of the Manaki brothers also preserve the memory of everyday life as well as a number of important political figures of their time, including the penultimate sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Mehmed V Reshad, King Aleksandar Karađorđević of Yugoslavia, Niazi Bey, one of the leaders of the Young Turk Revolution, Constantin Istrati, a member of the Romanian Academy of Sciences and Arts and former minister, as well as King Constantine I of Greece. The preserved and restored film material of the Manaki brothers has been collected under 43 titles.
