DOUBLEFEATURE

A block of flats in Jerusalem was the place of Yonatan Haimovich’s youth and of his parents’ premature death. Many years later he returns with a camera, in search of the people and atmosphere of his childhood impressions. He finds the immigrant community has aged, but their cocooned world is little changed; a Russian-language enclave within Israel, with Russian television and minority radio broadcasts. His conversations with the residents gradually lend substance to his memories of his parents, bring into focus the often blurred pictures and clouded reflections. A film about mothers and fathers, about remembrance and forgetting, about loss and music, about death and, above all, life.
