GO WEST

At the outbreak of war in Bosnia the gay Serb student Milan finds himself trapped in Sarajevo along with his partner Kenan, a Muslim cellist. The couple manages to flee the besieged city to Milan’s Serbian village, where Kenan is obliged to dress in women’s clothes and pretend to be Milan’s wife in order to escape ethnic persecution. Then Milan is called up to the army, and their situation becomes almost unbearable… Alternating between tragedy, comedy, and spaghetti western, this courageous debut feature faced considerable hostility before completion, with the director even receiving death threats. After the premiere at the Sarajevo Film Festival, however, the team was celebrated enthusiastically.
