DOUBLE FEATURE
The wedding of Višnja and Ante is taking place in a small village in rural Dalmatia. The most important guest at the ceremony is the bridegroom’s friend Andrija, a high-ranking Party member whom everyone respects and obeys. When two secret policemen appear at the ceremony, the guests begin to feel uneasy. As the film unfolds Višnja becomes the most tragic character in a tale reminiscent of a classical Greek tragedy. Following the split between Tito and Stalin in 1948, the Yugoslav secret service began to arrest anyone thought to be an opponent of the new Party line. Many people lived in fear of being the next to face accusations.
