MOTHERLAND

Highlights

Filthy rich, terminally ill father and defiant, beautiful daughter get in an epic argument mid-air – prompting dad to order his private jet to make an unscheduled landing and bid his daughter Eva to disembark somewhere in India. He soon regrets his tantrum and tries to move the authorities to find her again. Local police chief Deepak seems to see no cause for alarm though: “Everyone gets lost here. And then they turn up again.” Indeed, his jurisdiction is chock full of stranded folks, lost party animals, dropouts, almost all of them from Russia, who have come here to indulge in a life with no cares for tomorrow. Some of them want everything to be like it is back home, only cheaper, sunnier and without all the stress, while others are here in search of the great liberation, though no one seems ready to take the necessary steps to attain it. Shame on you if you catch yourself thinking MOTHERLAND just might be a criticism of contemporary Russian society too!
