HUNGARY - A COUNTRY AT THE CROSSROAD
Symposium
DOUBLEFEATURE
What is “right-wing”? Karolina Koleviczenyi, a German-Hungarian photographer, wonders how the friendly country of her unclouded childhood memories could become a stronghold of the New Right, and what exactly the term means. In her pensive photo-film essay she questions and portrays friends and acquaintances, thereby exploring the self-image of adherents to the right-wing views running through all the social classes. Their beliefs reflect their disappointment with developments in recent years, their struggle for day-to-day survival, their profound desperation. In particular, the contemplation of people’s faces shows that simple answers and the stereotypes we cultivate do not even begin to get close to roots of the phenomenon.
