I WAS ON MARS

Silva, a young Polish woman, arrives in New York with an electric iron, a handful of dollars, and next to no English. She immediately succumbs to the winning charm of Alio, an Italian she meets in a bar. He turns out to be a trickster who makes off with her cash. Silva follows hot on his heels and within no time has turned Alio’s life upside down – and that of his cousin Nic as well. A finely honed comedy about foreignness, possessions, and how obstinacy pays off. Winner of the International Film Critics Prize at San Sebastián in 1991.
