IN THE NAME OF
Beyond Belonging
To say that IN THE NAME OF plays with religious symbolism is putting it mildly. The Catholic priest Adam is blind to the flirtatious advances of his colleague’s wife Ewa. Adam happens to prefer men, which also explains why he’s been banished to the darkest provinces and told to take care of criminal youngsters. Adam tries to fight off his desires by jogging till he drops – but lands in the arms of a taciturn young farmer called Łukasz. Longing and lust are things not easily supressed. Melodrama, comedy, Pop, romance: Małgorzata Szumowska‘s film, which won the Teddy Award at the 2013 Berlinale, combines them all.
