Maria, Dan and Ilinca, three thirtysomethings from Bucharest, are volunteers working for an aid project, driving an all-terrain vehicle through wintery Transylvania, on a mission to deliver Christmas packages to remote wooded areas. They've not been at it long when they pick up confused loner Kente, who is trying to get to an old sawmill. Alas, after obliging him with a detour, the car gets stuck in the mud, night starts to fall and everyone's emotions are put to the test. In his film, Radu Muntean plays adeptly with the folkloristic setting, employing horror and road movie tropes to create a cinematic study of class differences, prejudice, empathy and the human psyche ostensibly driven to the limit.
