Documentary scenes relating to the construction of a housing estate close to the Romanian capital Bucharest. The film accompanies the construction workers throughout their day on the site: from the second they rise at the crack of dawn until they knock off. The documentary startles most of all with its use of irony to subvert the all-too-familiar clichés about heroic and collectively accomplished feats of construction. It’s almost as if the filmmaker and her “heroes” tacitly agreed to playfully accentuate, and thus remove, the prevailing obligations. At the same time, Pop finds plenty of space for poetic images and moods.
