THE HOARY LEGENDS OF THE CAUCASUS

Homage

The film is based on a story by the Russian poet Michail Lermontov, who was for his part inspired by a Georgian legend. An impoverished wandering minstrel is unable to marry his loved one because her father, a rich Turk, opposes their union. The minstrel sets out on a long journey and has to endure many trials during his travels. With the help of Saint George, he finally returns just in time to be able to marry his beloved. At the close of the film he sets free a white dove, it comes to rest on a camera. Employing various styles and languages, the film fascinatingly counterpoints music with images.
