LEMONADE

Nurse Mara from Romania is trying to gain a foothold in the USA with her son Dragos. Alas, their dream of a better life has a bitter aftertaste: the wait for the highly coveted green card becomes a farce, the two’s situation is exploited and Mara’s recent marriage to US-American Daniel is put to the test. In spite of all the humiliation and obstacles, Mara doesn’t give up, trying instead to make lemonade where life has gifted her with a handful of lemons, as the American saying goes. Ioana Uricaru’s debut film, based on a true story, is impressive and intense and shows once again that the American Dream is to be consumed with caution.
