MERRY IS THE GYPSY LIFE
Symposium
“Merry is the gypsy life” – or isn’t it, in fact? For the first time in the history of Bulgarian cinema, a Romni is in the director’s chair: Ludmila Zhivkova has devoted her life on all levels since the age of 17 to providing young Roma with higher education: with this documentary film featuring a wealth of material and an unhurried hand, she offers us insight into the little known history of the Roma and Sinti during the Second World War. A work that becomes a research and educational project on an equal footing treating racism, the Holocaust and the specific setting of Bulgaria.
