Moldova – Europe’s poorest country. Three young mothers go abroad in search of a better future, leaving their families behind. The new life of Aurica, Raia and Nataşa begins in anonymity as they wait for papers, wait for the next Skype call home, wait for a future worth living. Meanwhile their families face a new reality in which traditional role models no longer prevail: the mothers send home cash while the fathers do the housework. The journalist Ed Moschitz charted the progress of the families over a 7-year period, delivering a sensitive long-term study on labour migration and changing gender roles.
