MANIFESTO

Competition

A documentary film about violence in present-day Russia, from the perspective of school children and adolescents. The found-footage film MANIFESTO assembles self-made videos, drawn from social media posts, showing haunting images from the everyday lives of young Russians. We accompany them in their morning routines and on their way to school, amid echoing alarm sirens and evacuations. Life at school is marked by fear, subjugation and violence. We witness as teachers subject their students to physical and psychological abuse and classmates go on a rampage, followed by resistance and cries for revolt against the government, which are met with horrific reprisals. With MANIFESTO, Angie Vinchito has created an unflinching collage that is impossible to forget, using images that illustrate the shocking and boundless brutality to which this young generation is exposed on a systematic basis. Content warning: This film contains brutal scenes that may be disturbing to the viewer.
