MY FATHER'S BIKE

Competition

Life is full of surprises: 70-year-old Vłodek wakes up one morning to find his wife has vanished. A letter informs him that she’s left him for another man. Even for Vłodek, who’s made of strong stuff, this news is too much. After passing out he lands in hospital, prompting a visit from his son Paveł. The renowned pianist has broken off a concert series in Berlin to look after his old man. The next visitor to arrive is Paveł’s young son Maciek, who lives in London with his mother. It soon becomes evident that relations between the respective fathers and sons are strained. Paveł feels he is not respected by Vłodek, who was once a professional musician too, and young Maciek resents his father for similar reasons. The despondent Vłodek shows little interest in his wife’s return, but his enervated son wants her back home as soon as possible – mainly because he wants to get away again. During an eventful journey to a provincial Polish village where they believe the mother to be hiding the threesome find themselves forced to face up to the conflicts they have with each other.
