Oleg leaves Latvia for Belgium to work in a slaughterhouse. Unfortunately, he is fired after being unfairly blamed for an accident on the job. Andrzej offers him a way out of his predicament: a new job, new passport, new friends and the promise of payment to follow soon. More significant than all that, however, is the dependent relationship that Oleg unconsciously enters into by agreeing to the deal. All attempts at self-emancipation find him right back again with increasingly unstable and criminal Andrzej. With its intense cinematic proximity to its protagonist, Juris Kursietis’ film brilliantly conveys the desperation and rootlessness of a young man pushed to his limits by fate.
