A single railroad track cuts through “Shanghai”, a poor district on the outskirts of Baku. Freight trains squeeze their way through the neighbourhood, right up against the doorsteps, on their way to the glossy metropolis. The buildings are marked for demolition in the very near future. In the last days of Shanghai, German director Veit Helmer shoots his feature film THE BRA, starring Miki Manojlović. Alas, unlike the rest of the film crew, documentarian Leyli Gafarova is interested in learning about the people who (still) live here.
