OUR GAGARIN

Homage to Yuri Gagarin

"Our Gagarin" – the son of the Soviet people, the first human to explore space. Ten years after the successful flight of the Vostok-1, a film appeared which showed model citizen, pilot, son, family man and cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin during training, on visits abroad and surrounded by a cheering populace. The ideological lens is obvious. The primary author here was Igor Bessarabov, a filmmaker under contract at the Central Documentary Film Studio in Moscow and one of the party loyalist directors who not only travelled to other socialist nations abroad to shoot, but was also permitted to do so in the so-called "Kapstrany", or capitalist countries.
