PETRA EDELMANNOVÁ

Symposium

TRIPLEFEATURE

Petra Edelmannová, the former chairwoman of the far-right Czech National Party (Národní Strana), achieved notoriety by suggesting that a “final solution to the gypsy question” would be mass resettlement in India. Her incendiary statement fuelled an already heated social climate in which (according to a poll by Stern magazine) 85 per cent of all Czechs say it is impossible to live alongside the Roma, who are exposed to recurrent attacks. Working in the tradition of direct cinema and Czech political documentary, Klusák and Remunda reveal incidental details that expose the staging behind the politician’s wholesome appearance as the nice young woman next door.
