ROCKER

Competition

Victor is a rocker – and never quite grew up. Now 45, he lives with his son Florin in a shabby apartment in Oradea, a town in western Romania. Florin fronts a band called "The Iguanas" and lives his dream of being a rock star. His father brings in cash with casual jobs and petty theft, but thanks to Florin’s drug habit the pair are permanently broke. Victor keeps the show running, helps his son as best he can, does all the shopping and housework. And his kind deeds aren’t confined to the home: he offers the band musical advice, procures new instruments, shoots a promo video or tries to organize a trip to Bucharest for an upcoming gig. But despite Victor’s desperate efforts to keep his family and the band from falling apart, the situation starts to swerve out of control. Following on from Marian Crişan‘s prizewinning debut feature, the laconically humorous MORGEN looks at a difficult father-and-son relationship and the mutual dependencies it involves.
