Roman once promised a friend that his son would marry the friend’s daughter when the two children grew up. The families subsequently went their different ways, but years later a letter reminds Roman of his old promise. His son Jura is seeing an attractive blonde, and has no intention of marrying a girl from a far-off Slovak village. This film about cultural identity and the longing to be accepted revels in clichés and situation comedy – a highly effective strategy for putting a finger on the sore spots.
