RUSSIA 88

Symposium

Sasha rampages through Moscow with a horde of skinheads. They bark German slogans, chase the hated “black arses” – Caucasian and Central Asian migrants – do military exercises in a boot camp, march into the stadium when Dynamo Moscow is playing, meet representatives of the local militia in a basement, and chant their slogans at Oi! concerts. Then Sasha’s sister falls in love with a migrant. Sasha acts according to his notions of honour and morality, and plunges himself into tragedy, taking others with him. The fictional story shot in documentary style with a hand camera is blended with real footage documenting the ingrained xenophobia of the Russian population.
