SCARY MOTHER

Manana’s family is in an uproar, her husband is outraged: instead of attending to her hair-do or taking care of the kids, the 50-year-old housewife has withdrawn to her room to work obsessively on her debut novel. She only speaks about her writing with her friend the bookseller, a firm believer in her literary talent. When Manana finally reads aloud to her family from the manuscript she’s slaved away at for so long, it’s like a bomb has gone off: the tale portrays all of the disgust and perversion of her own life’s circumstances.
