The offer of “help” from the gangster Dadan proves to be a con. We see two youngsters being married against their will, and a deceased grandfather who suddenly comes back to life. “Jaw initially agape, the western European viewer sits in the cinema, shocked by the absurd figures, the ugly faces, the grotesque plot. And that’s supposed to play in Europe? But cinema wizard Kusturica needs thirty minutes at most to enchant the viewer. Suddenly, all you want to do is set out for the Danube and live the gypsy life.
