In his second feature, Machulski proceeded to poke fun at all forms of ideology. Two men are cryogenically frozen in the 1990ies for clinical research, only to awake much later than planned in the year 2044 to an unrecognisable future. A devastating war has left them the only two men alive in a matriarchal society that resembles a cross between Brave New World and 1984, where sickness and other complications have vanished thanks to ever present surveillance. The two freshly thawed thirty-somethings shake up this system, making a mockery of both boneheaded machismo and rigid feminism in the process. With a healthy serving of slapstick, Machulski demonstrates the subversive power of humour here – in a film that would become a cult classic behind the Iron Curtain.
