DOUBLE FEATURE

CSILLAGOSOK, KATONÁK occupies a central position in Jancsó’s body of work, and it was also the first Soviet-Hungarian coproduction. Originally planned by Mosfilm as a propaganda film celebrating the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution, the screenplay was revised numerous times. Although the Soviet censors made critical comments, they had faith in Jancsó’s extraordinary talent. All the same, two versions of the film existed by the end. The director Iván Forgács traces the special production history of the classic film, offering highly informative insights into the various stages of its making.
