Young Saule and her father, a railway linesman, live in a small house among the infinite expanses of the Kazakh steppe. One day the young Frenchman Etienne appears – and suddenly everything is different. The presence of an “exotic” foreigner rouses Saule’s curiosity about the outside world, and the bond between the two youngsters begins to deepen.
