SUNDAY MATINÉE
Hungary in the 1960s: the author Magda wants to devote more time to her writing and decides to hire a housekeeper. Her eccentric neighbour Emerenc takes the job, and very quickly an odd intimacy develops between the two women. But Emerenc remains mysteriously closed up – like her house behind the door she allows nobody to go through. A drama of power and friendship, trust and loss, which is based on the prize-winning novel of the same title. Oscar-winning director István Szabó tells his tale in painstakingly composed images, the touching scenes of closeness and intimacy heightened by the forceful interplay between Martina Gedeck and Helen Mirren.
