One of Godard’s most obscure films, THE KIDS PLAY RUSSIAN sees a Hollywood producer commission a filmmaker (Godard himself) to document post-Cold War Russia. As in much of Godard’s output during this period, however, the narrative is a mere pretext for a mesmerising montage of found footage drawn from the history of the cinema, with a notable focus here on the legacy of Soviet filmmakers, from Sergei Eisenstein to Artavazd Pelechyan.
