THE LOVES OF A BLONDE
Homage
A grotesque situation: 2,000 young females working in a shoe factory, and a company of army reservists – older, mainly married men with their own egoistic agenda. When Andula pairs up with a young piano-player, it looks like at least one of the girls has hit the jackpot. But after she travels to his home and rings his parents’ doorbell, she soon realizes his intentions are not serious, either. The couple are anything but happy to see their visitor, and make this rudely clear to the girl. Forman’s portrait of the marriage is subtly sarcastic: a fortress fraught with aggression it unloads on unsuspecting outsiders. And due to the couple’s conventional notions of morality, the son ends up having to share their bed…
