After the First World War and the Polish-Soviet War, Wiktor Ruben has built up a life for himself as a manufacturer. When his best friend dies, Wiktor has a breakdown. On the advice of his doctor, he travels to his uncle’s place in the countryside, where he once spent the summers of his youth, in order to get some rest. 15 years have passed since his last visit and once there he finds that things have changed. At a meeting with the five sisters from the neighbouring farm memories of missed opportunities and suppressed feelings begin to awake. In vain, Wiktor attempts to revive the connections of the past and in the search for lost time he finally finds his way to himself.
