THE WIND AND THE OAK
Fokus: Kosovo & Albanien
According to director Besim Sahatçiu, THE WIND AND THE OAK was the first film made "by Kosovars for Kosovars". Kosovar partisan Lisi ("The Oak") fights here against the fascists, during World War II. His story then extends beyond the end of the conflict, into the 1960s. While he and his generation were largely uneducated and focussed on their epic struggle, the following generation has totally different plans: Lisi's nephew begins his work life as a courier and ends up becoming a successful doctor. The film's elaborate production and the immense effort that went into this trailblazing work were honoured in the scope of Pula Film Festival's 26th edition.
