VASHA

Competition

It all begins with a bang: an exploding car-bomb. And young Toomas (Tom) makes the acquaintance of an older man who shows no interest in the boy. Artur much prefers to remain alone in the shadowy world of his bitter memories. A morose and inscrutable loner, the police suspect him of being a terrorist. Young Toomas, however, naive and curious, refuses to be deterred, and deploys all his youthful charm. There are a few things he wants to learn from Artur, and very gradually he manages to establish a not entirely uncomplicated relationship. It might be described as filial or even fraternal (hence the title “Vasha”) – at all events, the connection changes both their lives. The pair seem bound inextricably: be it that Toomas tries to smuggle Artur out of the hospital or rescues him from the clutches of the police. And neither is able to resume his old life at the point before the explosion occurred... In the guise of a road movie or police thriller, VASHA relates the tale of two outsiders in a world that is anything but perfect. The often dark and sombre images tell of remembrance and revenge, but also amount to a sensitive, touching account of friendship.
