The Czech singer Ida Kelarova, famed as the “voice of the Roma”, is the daughter of renowned Roma musician Koloman Bitto. As well as giving concerts, Ida Kelarova organizes workshops pursuing the goal of improved cultural exchange. When she meets 12-yearold Vierka Berkyova from Slovakia, she is enthusiastic about the girl’s musical aptitude and phenomenal voice. Ida makes a record with Vierka and is determined to continue promoting her extraordinary talent. It was the beginning of a highly unusual project, documented close-up by director Miroslav Janek and his camera crew: Ida asked not only Vierka to come and live with her husband and herself, but invited the rest of Vierka’s extended family as well.
