The last film attributed to the Groupe Dziga Vertov, VLADIMIR AND ROSA is a parody of the Chicago Eight trial against American activists involved in the protests against the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Departing from the ascetic rigour of their previous collaborations, Godard and Gorin fittingly depict the chaotic court case in a burlesque, cartoonish manner, while interrupting the judicial proceedings for lengthy theoretical digressions, in which the filmmakers style themselves as Vladimir (Lenin) and Rosa (Luxemburg).
